An elderly man walks into the post office. He’s scowling. The clerk on duty can see he’s unhappy. The man approaches and slams an envelope on the counter.
“For 10 years, I have received this check on the the 3rd of every month. But this month, it didn’t arrive until the 4th!” the angry man exclaimed. “What do you have to say about this?!”
The clerk smiled and said, “You’re welcome.”
“You’re welcome?! That’s your answer?” the man replied, upset and confused.
“Yes,” said the clerk. “You’re welcome. We delivered your check to you on the 3rd of every month for 10 years. I’d say that’s pretty good service. So, you’re welcome.”
This story was told to me by a retired postal clerk named Buck.
